Federal Member for Pearce, the Hon Judi Moylan MP, will host the Shadow Minister for Tourism and Regional Development Hon Bob Baldwin MP, and 12 leading local tourism professionals in a roundtable discussion on the most important issues facing the tourism sector in Pearce on Wednesday 19 January 2011.
With the world-renowned Swan Valley and the emerging tourism hot spots of Chittering, Gingin and York, tourism is an increasingly vital part of the Pearce economy and Mrs Moylan said she is looking forward to Mr Baldwin’s visit.
“Tourism requires incisive leadership and Bob’s experience as Parliamentary Secretary for Industry, Tourism and Resources and knowledge of the sector are major contributors to his success in this portfolio,” Mrs Moylan said.
“Pearce is fortunate to have some of the best and most experienced tourism operators in Western Australia, which makes for a productive and insightful discussion.”
Topics likely to be discussed include strategies for improving tourism in Pearce and the need for improved local infrastructure, such as the construction of stage one of the Perth-Darwin Highway, which will promote regional tourism.
Prior to entering politics, Mr Baldwin owned a scuba diving and charter business on the East Coast of New South Wales. He is passionate about Australia’s regional communities and their vital contribution to the nation.
