Residents asked to complete new aircraft noise survey
Posted on Wednesday, 19 August 2009
The Member for Pearce the Hon Judi Moylan MP is inviting Hills residents to complete a survey form if they are concerned about aircraft noise.
Survey forms were sent out to residents in the Hills areas and completed forms are already being returned to Mrs Moylan’s office.
Following complaints from constituents, Mrs Moylan has corresponded with the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government the Hon Anthony Albanese MP seeking an explanation for the lack of open and accountable public consultation. Following a meeting with Air Services Australia, the member for Pearce also spoke on the issue in the Parliament last week.
In an Adjournment Debate speech Mrs Moylan said: “Residents are understandably angry about these changes as they had no warning. The Minister need to act to ensure that a proper public consultation process takes place and that there is an even distribution of air traffic in the Perth Metropolitan area.
“Consultations should be open for discussion about curfews, noise abatement measures and compensation availability to affected residents as has happened in other major capital cities in Australia.
“Responses to the survey will be collated and sent to the Federal Minister and to Air Services Australia and I would like to table them at the next meeting of the Perth Airport Noise Management Committee Meeting scheduled on 26 August 2009.”
To obtain a copy of the survey please call the office of Hon Judi Moylan MP on (08) 9294 3222 or email email@example.com.
