Federal Member for Pearce Judi Moylan today thanked 15 residents from the Shire’s of York and Northam for making their local communities better places to live.
Mrs Moylan presented the volunteers with Pearce Australia Day Awards in recognition of the time and effort they dedicate to volunteer work, which benefits many people.
“I have been holding these awards for more than 10 years, and each year I am amazed at the number of worthy nominations we receive,” Mrs Moylan said.
“In that time we have had nominees as young as 11, through to people in their 90s. We are very fortunate to have so many people that are willing to give up their spare time for their community.
“Through their work, these volunteers have made a difference to many lives and our communities are much richer for their involvement.”
Mrs Moylan said she was pleased to see such a high number of nominees from Wundowie, nine in total.
“Wundowie has provided many nominations over the years and these awards are proof of what a special community it is.
“All those nominated provide a wonderful example of ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary things. That no matter whether you are old or young, whether you’re at school, retired or working, you can make a difference.
“I congratulate all the volunteers here today and say thank you, on behalf of your communities, for your dedication, your effort and your time. Without you our communities would not be such wonderful places to live.”
