Member for Pearce Judi Moylan officially opened a capital works project at Treetops Montessori School, at Darlington today, which involved the construction of a new general learning area to house the lower primary class, including a library/resource room and a staff room.
Ms Moylan said the Federal Government had given $150,000 to the $364,545 project. The State Government provided a $125,000 low interest loan and the school committed $89,545.
“These outstanding facilities will help ensure pupils at Treetops Montessori School are encouraged to realise their full potential and attain their goals,” Ms Moylan said.
Ms Moylan officially opened the new facilities on behalf of the Australian Government and the Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Dr Brendan Nelson.
Ms Moylan congratulated the school community on establishing the best possible facilities for students.
The Montessori education is child-focused and looks at a holistic approach to education.
She said the project demonstrated the Australian Government’s commitment to providing every student with the best possible learning environment through the provision of these new updated facilities.
“The Australian Government is dedicated to ensuring every student receives quality schooling,” she said.
“For 2004 the Commonwealth Government is committed to providing an estimated
$7.1 billion for school education, an increase of $5.26 million, or 8% over the previous year. This funding includes nearly $336 million for capital projects in Australian schools,” she said.
