The Electorate of Pearce will receive over $700,000 to implement projects under the Community Support Component of the National Landcare Programme, Member for Pearce Hon Judi Moylan MP has announced.
“These projects will assist in improving the productive and environmental value of our natural landscape,” she said.
According to Ms Moylan, farmers in Pearce are aware that sustainable farming is based on a healthy environment, and that has made farmers, through Landcare, some of Australia’s best hands-on environmentalists. About 75 per cent of our nation’s farmers and land managers are involved with Landcare.
National Landcare projects also contribute to the objectives of existing regional integrated natural resource management plans and interim priorities where plans are yet to be developed.
Projects in the region will address core priorities, taking into account the local conditions and requirements.
Six local projects will benefit from the $700,000. These include three projects in the Avon Region and one each in the Northern Agricultural, Swan and South West Regions. The projects cross into the boundaries of the Canning, Forrest, Kalgoorlie and O’Connor Electorates.
The community support schemes are funded by the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program, with matching contributions (in cash or kind) from the community and other organisations.
