Organisations supporting families and communities affected by drought in Pearce are encouraged to apply for a share in $10 million in Australian Government funding, ‘Strengthening Drought Affected Communities’.
Member for Pearce, Hon Judi Moylan MP, urged organisations in the community to apply.
“Local organisations can apply for funding between $3000 and $300,000 for each project in total for up to two years to strengthen drought affected communities through the initiative,” Ms Moylan explained.
“This funding will allow organisations to develop projects to address local issues, creating opportunities for families in the community and recognising that the prolonged and severe drought is having a significant impact on these communities.
“The Local Answers initiative is part of the $490 million Stronger Families and Communities Strategy, giving communities the power to develop their own solutions and assist them to help themselves through small-scale, time-limited projects.
“This funding is another example of the Australian Government’s continued commitment to help families in drought affected communities and builds on the
$1.1 billion of Australian Government additional drought assistance this year.
I encourage organisations to apply for a share in the funding,” Ms Moylan said.
Applications for ‘Strengthening Drought Affected Communities’ - Local Answers close on 20 December, 2006.
Guidelines and application forms are available from the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs website www.facsia.gov.au/sfcs
