The Australian Government will provide more than $234,000 for a transport project in the Narrogin region, Member for Pearce The Hon Judi Moylan MP announced today.
Ms Moylan confirmed that the Wanerie Road upgrade project had received $234,500 in AusLink Strategic Regional Program funding towards an estimated total cost of $335,000.
“I congratulate the Shire of Narrogin on its successful transport funding application, which will have a significant positive impact on the local economy and encourage the Narrogin community to grow and develop,” Ms Moylan said.
The project involves the initial sealing of 3.06km of Wanerie Road between Narrakine South Road and Cooraminning Road, approximately 3.5km south of Narrogin.
Ms Moylan says the project will take approximately two years to complete and will benefit rural industries located on the road, which include an intensive piggery.
Ms Moylan explained that the Strategic Regional Program differed from the annual grants to councils under AusLink’s Roads to Recovery component as money was not provided automatically to every Council. A funding case has to be developed to fit the program guidelines.
“The AusLink Strategic Regional Program is designed to assist councils develop regional and local transport infrastructure to support industry, tourism and economic development,” Ms Moylan said.
The Australian Government's commitment to local roads improvements under AusLink has reached $2 billion between the financial years of 2004-05 to 2008-09.
