The Shire of York will upgrade the York War Memorial with the help of a $4000 grant under the Government’s Commemorations Program, Saluting Their Service.
Member for Pearce Hon Judi Moylan MP announced today that the funding had been approved by the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, The Hon De-Anne Kelly MP.
“The Saluting Their Service Program encourages the community to remember the sacrifice and contributions made by Australians who served in wars,” Ms Moylan said.
“The York War Memorial is dedicated to the memory of the district’s servicemen and women and will be upgraded to include plaques commemorating post World War 1 wars, conflicts and peace operations.”
Ms Moylan congratulated the Shire of York on its initiative with this excellent community project.
“I look forward to seeing the local memorial when the improvements have been made,” Ms Moylan said.
Since the launch of the Commemorations Program in 1997, more than $10 million in grants to over 4000 ex-service and community organisations has been approved across Australia.
