Moylan encourages people to nominate for Australian of the Year

Member for Pearce Judi Moylan today encouraged people from all Pearce communities to nominate someone for the Australian of the Year Awards 2006. Ms Moylan said the type of person who would be good would be someone with commitment and focus, who gives his or her time to the community, willingly and with dedication. “There are endless volunteers in Pearce who make our societies much better places to live in,” Ms Moylan said. “Why not nominate a friend, family member or a colleague who has shown outstanding dedication to others.” There are four categories for the 2006 awards – • Australian of the Year • Young Australian of the Year (16 to 25 years) • Senior Australian of the Year (60 years and over) • Local Hero The Local Hero Award acknowledges a significant contribution at a local community level. Previous winners have been from a diversity of backgrounds and fields. State and territory winners will be announced in November and will go on to compete in the National Awards. Nominations close on Monday 29 August, 2005. Nomination forms are available by calling 1300 655 193 or at www.australianoftheyear.gov.au
